Humble Art Teacher

We met nearly twenty years ago
My first painting was a flower, which I disliked
But you patiently told me
To keep going
And as I kept painting
You helped me to discover a hidden talent - that I didn't know I had
You included me in the first Hopstore Exhibition
By putting painting with my poetry
You embody all that the Bible says love is:
"Love is patient, love is kind…"
You never want to be thanked publicly
That's how humble you are
You blush with embarrassment at that very thought
You never turn anybody away
I have never heard you say - 'oh you can't paint'
I watch how while you patiently draw out somebody's talents
Whether they can sketch, make sculpture or paint
You bring out each individual talent within their own time
You have in essence the patience of a humble artist
For me there would be no Monaco
Exhibition without you
All you are is encouragement
That is why I have the privilege and honour of knowing you -
Simply as the humble artist
