The Most Accessible Hotel in Dun Laoghaire

On June 24 I celebrated my 50th birthday in the Royal Marine Hotel in Dun Laoghaire. In the lead-up to the party, the staff were very accommodating to me, even giving me a discount on the cost of hiring the large function room. I knew about this large room from two parties I had attended within the last five years. The staff made the planning very easy indeed. The reason why I chose this function room, was because I had invited several friends who are wheelchair users. I wanted to have enough space in which everyone could move around easily. The large round tables sat at least eight people, and the food (hot finger food, and sandwiches) was to be served on trays placed on the tables. I had also booked a DJ—and there was still plenty of space for people to able to dance freely. On the day, there was a whole team of staff served us, and they couldn’t have been nicer. I was so happy to see people from my past and present all enjoying themselves. My aunt and uncle who live in New York, sent festive helium balloons which bounced around. I had a chocolate birthday cake which was presented to me and everyone sang “Happy Birthday.” Many people will have seen my recent blog about turning 50t, in which I spoke about trying to find an accessible place for the party. I am so happy I chose the Royal Marine Hotel and I would recommended it to everyone, especially if you are having wheelchair users as guests.
